Scrublands is an Australian crime thriller series based on Chris Hammer's acclaimed novel of the same name. The story follows investigative journalist Martin Scarsden who arrives in the small drought-stricken town of Riversend to cover what initially seems like a straightforward tragedy: a beloved local priest who inexplicably opened fire on his congregation, killing five parishioners before being shot dead by police. As Martin digs deeper into the shocking incident, he uncovers a web of secrets, lies, and dark mysteries that have plagued the isolated community for years. The seemingly simple assignment transforms into a complex investigation that challenges everything Martin thought he knew about the case. Set against the harsh, unforgiving landscape of rural Australia, the series explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the hidden darkness that can lurk beneath the surface of tight-knit communities. The atmospheric thriller keeps viewers guessing as layers of deception are gradually peeled away.
