Each episode features first-hand accounts from individuals who were arrested abroad, typically for drug smuggling or other serious crimes, though some were innocent victims of circumstance. Through intimate interviews and dramatic reconstructions, the series explores how these travelers ended up behind bars in some of the world's most notorious prisons. The show doesn't just focus on the prisoners themselves—it also includes perspectives from undercover agents, customs officials, and others involved in each case, providing a comprehensive view of events. The series serves as both a cautionary tale about the risks of illegal activities abroad and a compelling exploration of human resilience in the face of unimaginable hardship within foreign justice systems.
